The Thrill Of Love

May, 2018

RUTH ELLIS. The Truth Revealed ?

by Amanda Whittington

England. Easter 1955. Ruth Ellis - the last woman to be hanged in Great Britain - for the murder of her racing driver lover, David Blakely.

Questions at the time still rumble on today.

What led the relationship to this crime?

Who else was involved in the shooting of Ruth’s lover?

Why was no-one else charged?

Why did she plead “Not Guilty” yet was so scantily defended?

Why did she show no remorse?

Who was she protecting?

Public protests, petitions and newspaper articles at the time all appealed for clemency. Why did the Home Secretary not issue a last minute stay of execution, as had so often happened before? (This despite a plea from the Judge in the case himself!)

What part did class, gender, politics and the moral code of the time play in her sentence?

Amanda Whittingham’s play is a theatrically exciting and sensitive examination of the real Ruth Ellis and her situation.

Directed by Marie Stracker, performances will be at 7.45pm on 11th – 19th May, 2018.

Tickets priced at £9.00 will be on sale from Nantwich Tourist Office (01270 600727) or on-line at from Tuesday 24th April 2018.

A modern, summer comedy

Fish, fizz and a flutter

By Amanda Whittington

Work, love and life are just one long, hard slog for the fish-filleting foursome Pearl, Jan, Shelley and Linda. But their fortunes are set to change when Linda finds tickets to Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot the year it relocated to York.

Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink, a flirt and a flutter. If their luck holds, they could hit the jackpot - and more besides...

“With its Yorkshire heart and soul it has all the warmth of a Calendar Girls or a Full Monty” Yorkshire Post
